What we do:
Founded in 2016, ASRA Animal Sanctuary provides lifelong care, medical treatment and hospice support for feral, elderly, disabled and chronically ill rescue animals who would otherwise have little chance of survival.
We are a sanctuary hidden away high up in the mountains where we live off-grid and with all the peace and safety needed for our animals. almost all of whom are feral, traumatized, handicapped and/or chronically ill.
We take in animals that are in a need of rescuing and that no one else wants to take in, if and when we are able to. Many people don’t want the animals we rescue because of the amount of work, high medical costs, extremely limited possibility of adoption and high risk of them not surviving despite all efforts.
Some of the feral cats can roam freely and safely on our land. Some senior and ill cats live peacefully in our home. Senior dogs are walked several times a day on the mountain or are allowed to roam on the property during the day. Some of our rescued dogs were abandoned in shelters or used for dogfighting.
The biggest part of our work is hospice care for very old and ill animals at the last stage of their life. The most important rule that we follow is that the animals aren’t in pain, that they are happy and overall have a good quality of life. Sometimes we and our vets have to make the decision to let an animal go when they would otherwise suffer. Sometimes they don’t suffer and cross the rainbow bridge on their own.
All animals that are under our care get neutered, vaccinated, chipped and receive all the medical care that they need, thanks to our amazing vets.
In our sanctuary our animals can be themselves and finally live in safety and feel love. With us they have a family.

Who we are:
We are a Dutch family who, together, started our sanctuary after seeing the sad amount of animals being euthanised or simply not rescued because of being ill or feral. We wanted to help those who most needed it, who wouldn't have a possibility at life without us. We give them a loving home where they can be themselves.
