From the Streets and Pounds to a Loving Home
My Dog Rescue Spain specialises in rescuing abandoned and overlooked dogs from Spanish pounds and the streets, providing fostering, rehabilitation, adoption support and lifelong rescue backup. My Dog Rescue Spain is not a shelter. Since 2015 we have homed dogs from all across Spain, whether they are from the perrera (dog pound) or from the streets. Any dog who, for any reason, cannot be homed, stays with me in my home. As of this writing, I have 12 dogs at home, including blind and very frightened Walter, see photo and more on Walter below.
Prior to Covid, we homed many dogs from Caan perrera in Pontevedra, Northwest Spain. We help dogs from a perrera in the province of Salamanca near to Ciudad Rodrigo by the Portuguese border. We have helped dogs in many places, including Sevilla, Cadiz, Jaen and Badajoz and we try to take the poor souls that who have been left, sometimes for years. in the pounds.
We use a foster in Cadiz and Residences in Sevilla and Salamanca. I visit in person regularly so I know the dogs are well cared for. Times are hard at the moment with very few adoptions in the UK where most of our dogs are homed. We do home to other EU countries like Belgium, France and Germany but need more exposure and contacts for these countries.
We provide full 'Rescue Back Up' for life for our adopted dogs which means that if needed we will take the dog back and find a foster or a new home. We have an experienced dog trainer based in France who helps online or by phone if adopters or fosters have behavioural issues.
We URGENTLY need more fosters to come forward in both Spain and the UK. We are in desperate need of regular funding to pay our bills which are in excess of £2000 each month.

"Walter (above) was found in a steep sided canal in Salamanca. He had been left to die as he had gone blind. My vet said he wasn't always blind. He is stlll very scared.
I'm taking him to the groomers on Thursday. It's a mission but the groomer loves him. He's such a gentle soul.
Rescue costs are unceasing. We need 300 euros to take Walter to the opthalmic vet and see if any of his vision can be restored.
This is just the beginning with many of the dogs we rescue.
From Sandra who is fostering Waffle (shown below). ' There are moment words almost fail me. Yesterday I picked up a new foster dog - a Spanish Water Dog. He is a 7 or 8 month old discarded puppy. In my 20 years of fostering I have seen terrified dogs but never one as petrified as this boy. He is almost catatonic. Since I collected him he has made not a single sound or responded to anything, although, bless his heart, he has stopped shaking. Under his thick filthy coat his poor little body is just skin and bone. He should be running and playing and bouncing, not lying huddled against a wall too afraid to claim to his bed or even move if he is not alone.
We will take the pieces and put you back together Waffle. However long it may take.
